We are planning to launch a new product - Lokasi on lokasi.co.
It's an API services for Layered Points of Interest (POIs) that your data visualisation tools can connect to. At this point, we are still fine-tuning the user interface (UI) for public. POI is a location point on a map with coordinate (latitude and longitude) and details such as name of the place or building.
The thinking behind the layered POIs is that POI is the basic indicator on a map. The linked POIs should have coordinate details, index, name and a pointer to a database that keeps other information such as the details of the space, polygon shape, description, transaction history & even news. It is like adding more dimensions from your map data.
For example, a building POI should also have the names at different point in time, details of the building - land area, net lettable area (NLA), gross floor area (GFA), number of parking lots and construction companies that built it, old rental prices, list of current and previous tenants, list of owners, transactions and even news coverage (if any). These details are collected from various data sources and formats.
POI data are collected by various agencies/org and often very fragmented. So we hope by introducing a unique identifier (LUID) we should be able to harmonize these data. With the unique IDs we hope to extract metadata from other sources & enrich the POI dataset.
For now, we will share the product with our long-time customers first. We should be able to make the POI list with some part of the dataset freely available. The subscribers will be able to access the monthly updated data that we have cleaned up and labeled.
So on a map services like mapbox or datawrapper, you should be able to browse your neighborhood area on 3D with better information.
Mouse hover will display the information on the surrounding areas (OK not immediately on the web, but we can do it on tableau/datawraper). So far we have collected over 200k POIs and kept on updating. One brick at a time. Or one data cell at a time.
We have no idea if it will work or not, but just putting it out there. Let us know if you want to bounce ideas on this.
Thanks.
